The staff and students of Sabu International welcome active volunteers' involvement in the life of the school. Volunteers enrich the learning environment of our students, staff, and the lives of those donating their time.

ABOUT CONAKRY:
Conakry, Guinea's port capital and once a small island town, has spread to the country's mainland and now comprises a quarter of the population. This bustling metropolis boasts the national stadium, Stade du 28-Septembre, the National Museum, the Palais du Peuple, a thriving botanical garden, numerous open air markets and plenty of nightlife. Off the coast, the Iles de Los are a popular local escape for swimming and relaxing.Guinea,is well renown for its traditional drum and dance music. Weekends are are always busy with music, nightlife and traditional wedding ceremonies.

PHILOSOPHY / GOALS Research indicates that voluntarism in schools enhances student self-esteem, increases academic achievement and cognitive development, and improves student behavior and attendance. Teachers come to see volunteers as valued partners in extending and enriching the educational program. In addition, volunteers come to know they make a difference through their time and talent. Volunteer’s involvement allows staff to draw upon supplemental and often unique adult resources and expertise. The volunteer program serves as an outlet to utilize skills and develop more positive attitudes about oneself and as a resource to acquire new knowledge about the educational process, students development, sustainable community development projects, and the Sabu International School learning organization. In an increasingly interconnected world, what happens around the globe affects us all. The challenge of world peace, the global economy, and disease around the world can be addressed if we individually recognize our role as a global citizen and take steps to create a just world for all.
HOW TO GET HERE:
The cost of a flight from the US to Coankry is around $1600 or less. The international airport is located in the capital. Once you get to Conakry, our staff will meet you, take you through immigration and take you home.
WHERE TO STAY: Our volunteers have a choice. Do you want to stay in a hotel where you will definitely have to spend more or we can provide you with a modest, clean and safe accomodation that will give you a chance to interact more with the students, teachers and the community.
FOOD: Food is a little different but therre are varities of food to try and that you will like. You will be provided with three meals day and purified waterbottles to drink.
Spices:Garlic,Melegueta pepper - West African (substitute use cardamon), cloves,black peppercorns, cardamom, nutmeg, turmeric, pilau mix ,curry powder
Transportation: Upon your arrival, you will be provided with taxi transportation to and from the airport. However, there is an added expenses for volunteers wishing to travel to any of the two countries depending your placement.
Supervision: The safety of our volunteers is a top priority. Our administration will do their utmost to ensure that you are safe and well.
