BE THE CHANGE IN SUSTAINABILITY
Sabu International School believes in Sustainability. Learning outside the classroom is as important as the learning that takes inside. Sustainable skills are integrated into the daily school curriculum and help involved the students, teachers, and the parents in generating income to help support the school.
Gardening, farming, dying fabric, community service and other projects help provide funds for the school operation. Above all our goal is equip students who will become contributing member members of their community.
Farming and Gardening
Most of our students come to school without lunch and the school has no canteen nor provides any lunch services for the students. In 2001 our faculty and a group volunteers thought it will a great idea if the school will embark on gardening/farming project and used the proceeds to prepare lunch at the school. West Africa is tropical rice growing region, the school is presently working on cultivating,
- ten acres of rice and beans per year
- five acres of pea-nut
- two acres of cassava and potatoes
- do some gardening and grow, egg plants, tomatoes, red peppers, greens and lettuce.
- raise some chickens and eggs
Sponsorship students, students, faculty and Staff, community members and parents are the laborers. We plan to establish farms in both Sierra Leone,Liberia and Guinea. Students and faculty goes there every weekend, breaks and long Summer Holiday.
Cookry/Mini Canteen
The proceeds from Sabu garden project will not only help us with a school cookry/canteen shop but we will able to establish canteen locations where we will sell reasonable notorious food to our students and to the public. We will prepare breakfast in the early hours of the days, lunch and dinner all year round. Our foods will be the talk of the town.
Used Clothing
Through out the year we collects quality used; clothing shoes, mattresses, furniture, hats and electrical appliances and computers, and school supplies
The items collected are shipped by barrel across the Atlantic. Once they arrived
large portion of the items are used to improve the school infrastructure and a portion is used for the auction event that we hosts in month of March each year.
Please click here to see a full list of items that we collect and contact address.
Stationary Printing Press
Due to the huge expenses the school incur every year on assessments, photocopies, printing etc, the administration thinks it will a great idea if we can open a printing place that will serve the public and the school at the same. Doing so will raise funds to cover the school huge stationary expenses and will enhance classroom creativity.
Hand made Project
Being a community, we know we are surrounded with a group of talented people. We have parents, students and teachers who are have talents on a whole range of Art and craft to coloring.
We lunch the hand made project by focusing on the following
-dye fabric
-Djembe drums
-necklace beads
-woven basket
-carving
We currently have Djembe drums and dye fabric on our shopping Khart to sell. If you need a dress, or anything please contact us we will sure make sure you get it at the most shortest possible time. The proceeds goes to the school annual fund.
Tailoring Shop:
It started with the school uniforms that brought about the idea of the dye fabric. We know it will be a great idea for our students to learn about sewing .
